Busting the Piling Myths

By 13/04/2021June 13th, 2023No Comments

Here at Rhino Piling, we’ve heard it all before when potential clients come to us with a project to propose and preconceived notions that certain approaches just aren’t suitable. After all, only our team of experts need to know the ins and outs of the piling industry. In this blog, we’ve decided to go over some of the biggest myths that our readers tend to believe that often couldn’t be any further from the truth. Read on to find out more…

Myth: Piles aren’t a reliable foundational solution

Piles are a long, slender column that are driven into the ground by large rigs and tend to be constructed from materials like wood, concrete and steel. As a type of deep foundation, they often reach depths between 60-200ft which means that any property with a piling foundation is more than secure. When installed correctly and safely, piles can provide peace of mind and foundational stability for at least a lifetime.

Myth: The installation process can damage nearby structures

Although it is true that the process of installing piling foundations can create vibrations within the ground, there are alternative approaches that can be utilised in order to protect nearby structures. For instance, mini-piling rigs are significantly smaller which means that they don’t create as much disturbance in the soil and underpinning is designed to be implemented in existing builds so it is more than safe to use near nearby structures.

Myth: It takes too long to install piles

Every piling project is different which means that it is difficult to say how long it may take to secure the foundation of your property. In addition to this, piling requires a methodical approach and attention to detail so we will never rush an installation if it means putting the stability of the structure at risk. Piling is actually quite a time-friendly foundation and can be implemented within 2-3 days for residential projects, with industrial projects installing an average of 10-20 piles per day.

It isn’t uncommon for any piling company to become bogged down by misconceptions that parade themselves around as the truth. Piling is a type of deep foundation that is frequently misunderstood by those looking for a way to give their building the best possible future, especially when it comes to repairing or reinforcing existing builds.
