How Does Mini Piling Work?

By 04/08/2020June 13th, 2023No Comments

The foundations of a property are put in place in order to stabilise the structure and ensure that its weight is spread evenly as a lack of support will wreak havoc several decades down the line. In fact, there are a variety of different approaches that property owners can take such as traditional piles, groundworks or even mini-piling. Read on as the Rhino Piling team explain how mini-piling works and why it is such an effective method…

Mini-piling is a type of foundational solution that can be implemented when there is a lack of headroom, a restriction on the amount of space that is available or when the first layer of soil is too unstable to support traditional piles. It is no secret that regular piling is the superior option, however mini-piling is an incredibly effective alternative in these situations.

During the process, steel casings are driven or screwed into the ground using specialist machinery and then filled with concrete or grout. It is incredibly similar to traditional piling; however, the soil is given additional support from the external shaft casing which is important in situations where the soil is too weak to support the mini-pile on its own.

There are several different types of mini-piling that contractors can choose from in order to suit a particular project. For example, sectional auger mini-piling involves installing the supportive shafts in segments in order to account for a lack of headroom or space. Interestingly, these supports can be left in place or removed after the concrete has been poured in depending the stability of the soil.

Here at Rhino Piling, we want to provide our clients with a foundation that can withstand the test of time. After all, it is a time consuming and costly endeavour which means that property owners should never have to invest in additional projects in order to rectify sloppy or lazy work.
